A twice yearly concert & workshop mini tour

MOTW Series 2 is in April 2012

Bouzoukis without Borders together with Bobby Singh will take us on a global musical odyssey with music from Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria, Spain (Sephardic), Scotland, Ireland and India. Music of the world presents yet another splendid and unique musical partnership.

Whilst some of the concerts occur underground in caves and in churches, there is another element to Music of the World.... and that's all about luxury in the full style and decadence of unique atmospheric restaurants that match the rarity of the performances. The Avalon Restaurant Katoomba and Number 47 Louue st Rylstone are such places. Find them in our program and links.

Followed by morning workshops, the official opening celebration was at Jenolan on 7th Jan and included a dideredoo welcome by Grahame King, Songs by  Bathurst Multicultural Choir & a performance by the program's workshop participants. In the late afternoon at 4pm a mesmerising underground concert with Bukhu combining harmonies from his shamanic Mongolian culture with the middle eastern grooves of "Oud vibrations" ( John Robinson and Andy Busuttil). Together they instigated ongoing positive feedback from audiences.

One other priotitised activity for Music of the World is in partnering with community interagencies for special events like Harmony Day and Refugee Day. Social inclusion is everyone's buisness from individuals to community organisations and Neighbourhood Centres, school and councils. Music Hunter Projects is commited to initiating and contributing to memorable events that help whole communities create social inclusion and celebrate diversity.

"While multiculturalism implies difference, transculturalism sings of the bridging between our cultures in such a way as to point to the origins with respect and, at the same time, to show what happens when cultures merge into a single entity. Transculturalism in Australian music is that beauty which comes about through this interaction between cultural backgrounds in a way that is uniquely our own."
